Motorbike Insurance Guide

Buying motorbike insurance is not all that different from buying car insurance. Quotes and details can all be obtained online and there are a number of reputable sites that give useful advice.

The first thing to do when looking for motorbike insurance is to obtain a quote. This can be done either by using a broker, a comparison website or a quote can be had straight from the insurer. One thing to make sure is that you go a reputable company; the most well established names often do provide the best service and have many years experience to back up their provision. If you are using a broker make sure they are a member of the Association of Chartered Institute of Insurers and all providers must be covered by the FSA (Financial Services Authority).

Once you have a quote then always be careful to read the small print in detail. Make sure you are familiar with what is and isn`t covered in your policy and what the policy excesses are. If you are looking to make your payments by instalments make sure that any cancellation fee is clearly displayed and make sure you can amend and change your policy at any time. Many insurers bow charge a fee for this service which can prove quite costly.

Once your proposal has been accepted you will be issued with a cover note. This may be dependent on you providing further information; should you fail to do this the insurance could be made void.

Always shop around for the best deal; cheapest is not always the best when it comes to insurance and a bit of in depth research will prove that in many cases you really do get what you pay for. If purchasing a policy online then establish how the policy documents will be sent to you. If it is via email then make sure you have access to a printer so that you have paper copies to hand.

Keeping your motorbikes in good condition will make for easy motoring and driving safely will help reduce accidents. It is the number of accidents on the road that causes policy charges to increase so always be safe and careful when driving. Remember to be doubly aware of other road users, especially at dawn and dusk when you may not be as visible; hi-viz gear is always recommended at these times and also when rain and fog deter visibility.

Other accessories for safe biking include Motorcycle Intercoms, which allow you to communicate bike to bike, so you can warn bikers in your group of obsitcles, accidents and poor car drivers. We also recommend Motorcycle GPS units. It's always useful to know exactly where you are going!
